This a personal project that I created because of my hatred for JPEG compression and poor quality official digital releases. I read/mine manga either on a 1080p or 2160p screen with the image scaled to the image width, yet most raws have a horizontal resolution of around 1200, and are heavily compressed leading to a distracting reading experience.
I have access to an Epson v700 scanner, and some manga I bought on a whim so I figured I'd give scanning a try. I mainly used scan tailor advanced, but the auto de-skewing was a bit off, and it had no color correction, so I used imagemagick for the rest. I messed up de-spining the first book as i used a razor blade and a speed square, rather than a heat gun, lesson learned. I also only really got the hang of the workflow around the 3rd or 4th book which is why a couple cover pages are missing, 2 page spreads cut in half etc. I only color corrected the blacks, I have no issue with paper grain or the off white color so I didn't change that.
This only started because I tried to find high res raws of Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san, and even the ones from BookWalker were still shit quality by my standards. I've ordered Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san and Itoko no Ko and will be scanning them next. The raws available for Prunus girl aren't that bad, but I figured it would be good practice.
